Purdue Jazz Bands to offer romantic evening on Feb. 16WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Tickets are on sale for Purdue Jazz Band's seventh annual Evening of Romance, which will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday (Feb. 16) at the University Inn in West Lafayette.
The cabaret-style event will recreate the atmosphere of big band dance clubs of the 1940s ? including music, dancing and food ? and will offer seating at candlelit tables surrounding the dance floor.
The Purdue Jazz Band will play from 8-10:30 p.m. in the hotel's grand ballroom. A dessert buffet will be offered during intermission while a jazz combo performs on the hotel mezzanine. Gourmet coffee and a cash bar also will be available.
Directed by M.T. "Mo" Trout, the Purdue Jazz Band will set the mood for the evening with a selection of romantic jazz tunes including music from Count Basie, Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn and Johnny Mercer.
Some of the selected tunes will include Porter's "Night and Day" and "I Get a Kick Out of You" along with songs from Broadway musicals such as "Almost Like Being in Love," "My Funny Valentine" and "When I Look in Your Eyes."
The event, which in the past has been held at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Lafayette, will take place in the ballroom at the University Inn to accommodate a larger crowd with more room for dancing, Trout said.
All seats are reserved and tables can accommodate either four or eight people. People wishing to sit together as a group need to make reservations at the same time.
Tickets for the event are $19.50 per person, which includes the dessert buffet, and are on sale at the Purdue box office at (765) 494-4933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
