March 1 deadline nearing for financial aid applications

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In order to be considered for all federal, state and university-controlled financial aid, current and newly admitted Purdue students must file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, by March 1.

Students may still file after March 1, but the amount and types of aid available could be limited, said Joyce Hall, executive director of financial aid at Purdue.

"Staff members from the Division of Financial Aid have been busy making sure all current students and their parents are aware of the approaching deadline," Hall said. "Our staff also has participated in many outreach programs to area high schools and volunteered at College Goal Sunday, an annual statewide financial aid filing workshop."

The financial aid office also mails information explaining the financial aid process to newly admitted students and sends e-mail reminders about the deadline to current students, she said.

The FAFSA can be filed online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, students and parents can sign the form electronically after they obtain their personal identification number from the Department of Education.

For information about the financial aid process and filing the FAFSA, visit the Division of Financial Aid in Schleman Hall, Room 305, call (765) 494-5050 or go online to http://www.purdue.edu/DFA.
