15 students to compete in Purdue scholarship pageant

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Miss Purdue Scholarship Pageant will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday (March 3) in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse.

Fifteen students will participate in the pageant, which is affiliated with the Miss America Organization. Contestants must be full-time Purdue students between the ages of 18-24. The winner will receive the crown, title and more than $6,000 in scholarship money and gifts from local businesses.

The areas of competition include a presentation and community achievement interview, talent, lifestyle and fitness, presence and poise, and an overall composite score. Each contestant also must advocate a platform based on a social issue.

Miss Purdue 2006 Stephanie Larkin and Miss Indiana 2006 Betsy Uschkrat are scheduled to make appearances at the pageant.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public and will be for sale at the door.

The newly crowned Miss Purdue will go on to compete in June's Miss Indiana Pageant in Zionsville, Ind., where thousands of dollars in scholarship will be available, as well as a trip to the Miss America pageant.

*  Heather Casady, 21, of Merrillville, Ind., a junior in the School of Health Sciences.

*  Megan Dockery, 18, of Columbia City, Ind., a freshman in the School of Health Sciences.

*  Alicia Ellenberger, 19, of Valparaiso, Ind., a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Beth Gentry, 22, of Pittsboro, Ind., a senior in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Lisa Hanover, 22, of Carmel, Ind., a master's candidate in School of Pharmacy.

*  Kelli Hoffman, 22, of Columbia City, Ind., a sophomore in the College of Agriculture.

*  Samantha Hoke, 19, of Liberty, Ind., a freshman in the College of Agriculture.

*  Abbie Knigga, 19, of Kokomo, Ind., a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Meghan Lamontagne, 19, of Pelham, N.H., a freshman in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Kira Larimore, 23, of Camden, Ind., a doctoral candidate in School of Pharmacy.

*  Laura Malnar, 22, of Vincennes, Ind., a senior in the College of Consumer and Family Sciences.

*  Natalina Oliverio, 19, of Lowell, Ind., a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Amy Pflugshaupt, 21, of Hamlet, Ind., a senior in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Lisa Stanforth, 22, of Kokomo, Ind., a senior in the College of Liberal Arts.

*  Lyndsey Williams, 23, of Logansport, Ind., a senior in the College of Liberal Arts.
