Purdue Varsity Glee Club to tour California during spring break

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue Varsity Glee Club will head to the West Coast for a series of performances that will take place March 10-16.

"The Glee Club's spring tour is a great way for Purdue Musical Organizations to spread the word about Purdue University and enhance the university's outreach and recruitment efforts," said Brian Breed, director of Purdue Musical Organizations and the Varsity Glee Club. "Plus, it's always a rewarding experience for the students to connect with audiences in other parts of the country who may not get a chance to see them otherwise."

The Glee Club will kick off the tour of southern California with a performance at noon Saturday (March 10) at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The group's performance will be part of a community service project that is sponsored by the Big Ten Club of Southern California.

On Sunday (March 11) the Glee Club will take the stage at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif. Featuring one the largest pipe organs in the world, the Crystal Cathedral seats more than 2,800 people, and services are televised internationally in the program "Hour of Power."

Later that day, the Glee Club will present a free performance at 7 p.m. at the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church in Palm Desert, Calif.

On Monday (March 12) members will entertain between matches at the Women's Tennis Association Pacific Life Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

The group will visit with patients at the Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles on March 14 armed with Glee Club stuffed toys, CDs and Purdue apparel. The hospital is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising money and awareness for pediatric hospitals throughout North America.

On March 15 the group will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. Tickets are $5-10.

The Glee Club will have another free performance at 7 p.m. March 16 at Crosspoint Church in Chino, Calif.

Also during the week, members of the Glee Club will perform at local high schools and attend a taping of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
