Student Employment Week to honor Purdue student workers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University community will recognize student employees for their contributions during National Student Employment Week on April 8-14.

The National Student Employment Association and Student Employment Services in Purdue's Division of Financial Aid promote the week as a way to acknowledge the importance of the student work experience. Employers on and off campus are urged to recognize the efforts of their student employees during the week.

David Reseigh, student employment coordinator at Purdue, said working students continue to invest in themselves by learning important skills and directly contributing to the costs of their educations through earnings from working.

"It is important that both campus and local employers continue to recognize the contributions of these talented, knowledgeable and reliable student workers during this annual event," Reseigh said. "Having a consistent paycheck coming in from a job can be a big plus for a student looking to offset the costs of attending college, but learning important skills that can carry over to future career positions are an added bonus that students may not think about at the time."

Reseigh said that while many Purdue students are employed on campus, there are a significant number who work in the surrounding Lafayette and West Lafayette communities.

Purdue offers several programs, including federal work study, job location and development, cooperative education, and internship opportunities to bring students workers and employers with job openings together.
