- Jim Handy, an account manager for the Purdue Technical Assistance Program's Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center, received the Practitioner of the Year award at the Manufacturing Extension Partnership National Conference awards ceremony on April 24 in Orlando. An expert in lean product development and supply chain programs, Handy has helped several major manufacturers in Indiana improve their operational efficiency.

- Qingyan Chen, a professor of mechanical engineering, will receive the 2007 Willis J. Whitfield Award from the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology. He will receive the award at the ESTECH Awards Recognition and Membership Luncheon on May 1 in Bloomingdale, Ill. The award is presented for substantial contributions to the field of contamination control through published papers, studies and reports. The institute, founded in 1953 as a not-for-profit association, is a multidisciplinary, international society whose members are internationally recognized for their contributions to the environmental sciences.
