Farm Management Tour media day set for May 30

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Media can attend a May 30 preview of farms in Kosciusko County to be showcased during this year's Indiana Farm Management Tour. Farm operators will give presentations and speak with reporters wanting to work on advance stories about the public tour, which will take place on June 26-27.

This year the morning tours are designated exclusively for media. During the media preview two farms – Sam Beer Farms Inc. and Tom Farms - will be visited.

Sam Beer Farm Inc. of Milford is a medium-sized farrow-to-finish operation managing to maintain profitability and growth opportunities in the biofuels market. The Beers are continuously finding new ways to control costs and increase revenue in a changing economy and will share their practices.

Tom Farms LLC of Leesburg includes seed corn, soybeans, tomatoes, national trucking services and custom agronomic services. The operation has 16,000 acres in the United States and Argentina. Several family members are involved in managing the farm's different business units.

The media tour schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. – Sam Beer Farm Inc., 10264 N. Price Road, Milford

10 a.m. – Tom Farms LLC, 8542 Harper Road, Leesburg

Any reporters wanting to see all the farms can travel with faculty. Purdue University vans to the tour sites will leave from the Agricultural Administration Building dock at 6:15 a.m. Reporters who would like a ride should call Sandy Dottle at (765) 494-4248.

11 a.m. – Gingerich Dairy Farm, 12987 N. 400 W., Milford

Noon – Lunch

1 p.m. – Bishop Farms, 1865 W. 700 N., Leesburg

2 p.m. – Clunette Elevator, 4315 W. 600 N., Leesburg
