Purdue organization to honor Indiana's women in agricultureWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Friends and family members of Indiana women with agricultural careers are now able to honor them.
The Purdue University Women in Agriculture team has announced that it is accepting applications for its annual achievement and leadership awards.
The achievement award recognizes Indiana women who have contributed to production agriculture, agribusiness success or entrepreneurial agriculture activities, and the leadership award recognizes those who have had roles in agriculture leadership, advocacy for the industry or influence on agricultural policy.
"The goal of the awards is to recognize women's contributions to agriculture," said Stacy Clupper, Purdue Extension educator. "Agriculture has been traditionally seen as a male-dominated profession, but women have made important contributions, both on the farm and in agribusiness and agriculture leadership."
Each nominee will be considered for one category, and nomination forms will be accepted until June 15.
Awards will be presented Aug. 15 as a part of Purdue Day at the Indiana State Fair.
"The recipients of each award will receive a lot of recognition for their contributions," Clupper said. "In addition, they will also receive a personalized, handmade oak mantle clock, free registration for the 2008 Midwest Women in Agriculture Conference to be held in March and a few other prizes."
