Reporters' Calendar: Purdue Events for Journalists

JOURNALISTS: Here is a list of upcoming events at Purdue that reporters may want to consider covering. 

 

PURDUE EVENTS

* June 13 through July 3 and July 11 through Aug. 1 – Girls supply nutritional data at Purdue's Camp Calcium

* June 18-21 - Purdue's Summer Science Academy now in session

* June 19 - Purdue's VP for human relations to speak at Lafayette Rotary

* June 30 - Celebration of the culmination of Campaign for Purdue, strategic plan

Girls supply nutritional data at Purdue's Camp Calcium

Through July 3 and July 11 through Aug. 1. Girls of all races ages 12-14 will show how they adjust to campus life this summer while taking part in Purdue's Camp Calcium, a research effort that studies how calcium and other nutrients affect the body. This year's camp will focus on measuring the effects of vitamin D on calcium absorption. The camp takes place in two three-week intervals.

Purdue's Summer Science Academy is now in session

June 18-22. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Northview Middle School, 8401 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis. Science teachers and students from the elementary and middle schools in Washington Township are participating in a Summer Science Academy in conjunction with Purdue 's College of Science, which is part of the Partners in Inquiry-Based Science for Student Success Science Partnership. Teachers will work on improving classroom instruction techniques and in developing scientific literacy for all students. The Summer Science Academy will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northview Middle School. A follow-up session is planned, beginning July 23.

Purdue's VP for human relations to speak at Lafayette Rotary

June 19. Noon. University Inn, 3001 Northwestern Ave. Alysa Christmas Rollock, Purdue's vice president for human relations, will speak about diversity at the university. Reporters are welcome to join Rotary for lunch, which is served from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The program begins at noon and the speaker begins about 12:30 p.m.

Celebration of the culmination of Campaign for Purdue, strategic plan

June 30. 6:15 p.m. Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Event will feature Purdue trustees and cabinet members, deans, the President's Council, local officials and the steering committee of the Campaign for Purdue. An update will be given on the Campaign for Purdue fundraising effort, as well as the university's strategic plan, both of which officially end on June 30.
