Beck Center open house scheduled for Oct. 31

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A public open house will be from 1-2 p.m. Oct. 31 at Purdue University's new Beck Agricultural Center.

The 20,000-square-foot facility at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education is located at 4540 U.S. 52 W.

Farm superintendent Jim Beaty said the $5.2 million building provides facilities for educational opportunities for the agricultural and rural community and includes space for classes, meetings and research.

"The center was built so that we could get large equipment in for demonstrations," Beaty said. "And with doors that open directly from the classrooms, we can easily move out to the fields for hands-on learning."

The open house follows the center's dedication ceremony, which begins at 10:30 a.m. The facility is named for the Beck family of Atlanta, Ind., owners of Beck's Hybrids, who provided the lead gift to fund the building construction.
