Krannert students to collect food for homeless shelter

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A student organization from Krannert School of Management will distribute bags to houses around the University Farms subdivision beginning Monday (Oct. 22) for food donations that will be given to a local homeless shelter.

The Management Ambassadors will dress in a variety of Halloween costumes and will pick up the bags filled with canned goods and nonperishable food items on Oct. 31. They will donate the food to the Lafayette Urban Ministry.

"The event itself is always fun and memorable as we 'trick or treat' around the neighborhood," said Ieva Jansons, vice president of outreach for the group. "It's a great way to show our desire to give back to the community, a community that we have adopted since our enrollment at Purdue."

The event, called Trick or Can, started seven years ago and has grown from an informal collection that took in 300 to 500 food items each year to a more organized event that gathers more than 1,000 items.

The Management Ambassadors are current Krannert students who share experiences with high school students. They teach prospective students about Purdue by serving on panels, giving tours of Krannert and Rawls Hall, and taking students to class.
