Conference offers financial advice for pork producers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In a time of financial uncertainty, pork producers can learn about ways to find relief at the Central Indiana Pork Conference on Jan. 20 at Rossville High School.

The conference, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., is sponsored by the Clinton County Pork Producers and Purdue Extension Clinton County.

"It's been more than two years since pork producers have made a profit overall," said Curt Emanuel, educator, Purdue Extension Clinton County. "Things may start to look up later this year, but farmers need to be prepared to take advantage of the improved prices we expect to see this summer. The conference will provide them the tools they need to do so."

Conference presentations include a pork industry outlook by Chris Hurt, Purdue agricultural economist, and "Dealing With Contracts in a Changing Pork Industry" by Ken Perkins, First Farmers Bank of Peru. Other presenters include Brian Richert, Purdue swine specialist, and Dave Murray of Indiana Packers.

Representatives from the National Pork Board and Indiana Pork will provide industry-related information, including an update on legislative changes that may impact producers.
